40 State Level Breach Notice Laws...And Counting

Did you know that there are now 40 state level breach notice laws in the U.S., including the District of Columbia?

Many different websites provide information about the state breach notice laws, but most of them do not list all the current breach notice laws, or they provide information in a way that is not easy to quickly find specifically what I'm looking for.

Around 1 1/2 years ago I started tracking the state breach notice laws and put them into a quick reference for my own use. What I wanted to be able to quickly find, on one page, was the state, corresponding law number, and the effective date. I last updated my list on October 18; click on my "State Breach Notification Laws" link to see it and download a PDF for your own use.

I'm thinking about adding URLs within the table to take you directly to each of the laws, but I'm a little conflicted since that will put my "quick reference" over one page in size, even if I change it to landscape. However, the handiness of the links may be worth an extra page...
